Know Your REALTOR®: Alyssa Chmarney

The license might be new, but Alyssa Chmarney is no stranger to Saskatoon real estate. Having been a part of the CENTURY 21 Fusion administrative team for over a year now, she has developed a wealth of experience and knowledge, great connections, and a deep love for the industry. And though she’s been keeping busy finding dream homes for her clients, she managed to share a moment to tell us a little more about her!

Why did you choose to become a REALTOR®?

I chose to become a REALTOR® because I love people. And most importantly, I love to help people. I think buying a house is probably one of life’s largest purchases. And I’m here to help people through that and hopefully make it a positive and memorable experience, while minimizing the stresses and difficult parts of buying a house.

Why CENTURY 21?

After working in an administrative position for the company, I’ve really developed a love for the industry and strong relationships in the family-oriented office that Gary Busch has facilitated as our boss. You never feel like you’re alone and you always have somebody to turn to for questions. There is always somebody to call or text, and that is huge in this busy and ever-changing industry.

What’s your favourite part about being a REALTOR®?

My favourite part about being a REALTOR® is meeting new people, creating connections with those people, and then turning them into my clients. I’m here to take care of my clients and hopefully make new relationships and learn about people from all walks of life.

What is something you think every buyer should know before getting into real estate?

Something every buyer should know before getting into real estate is that it’s going to take patience and perseverance. Buying a house isn’t just going to look at a house and then buying it. There’s so much more that goes into it. And if you get through the hardest parts at the beginning, it will pay off and your perseverance will definitely show when you get to walk into your new home with you and your family.

What do you think is the most important change coming for real estate?

I think important things that are changing in real estate are the fact that it’s not so “business-y.” It’s more of just like a personal relationship that you can have with people that you already know or new people that you’re going to meet and creating those relationships based on that real estate transaction, but without it feeling so pretentious.

I also have a degree in Education from the University of Saskatchewan, and taught for a few years, but really found my passion in real estate.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am from Saskatoon, born and raised. I am a mom and a wife, and with our family, we love all sports. Whether it’s playing, watching—any sports! Baseball, hockey, whichever our kids are involved with or our friend’s kids. And we love making new friends in the sports world. And yeah, just spending time as a family.

Why do you love Saskatoon?

I love Saskatoon for its physical beauty—the river, the bridges, we have lots of beautiful neighbourhoods. But our city also has a really beautiful vibe in the sense of community and the diversity that it offers. I just think it’s a great place to raise a family, and everybody seems to be so friendly all the time. And yeah, that’s guess why I’ve lived here my entire life and really have no plans to leave!

If you could give any seller one piece of advice, what would it be?

When a client is selling their house, I believe they need to showcase it as special as it feels to them. A house to a new buyer is just a house. When you want to display it as your home, you need to showcase all of its qualities. And if that means cleaning it up, adding a fresh coat of paint, doing any small updates—the freshening of it will go a long way in selling the home.

Is there anything else you think people should know about you when considering whether or not to work with you?

I want to work with you, not just as a transaction and as a business, but as a connection. I’m here to make real life relationships, and if that means we sell or buy a house with you, that’s great. But ultimately, I’m here for the relationships.

If you could use three words to describe yourself, which would you choose?

Three words to describe myself would be energetic, enthusiastic and approachable.
